Tips for taking baby on a picnic

Now that summer is here, we know you’ll want to get out and introduce your baby to the wonders of nature. Yay for you! A picnic is a wonderful, low-key outdoor activity that you can all enjoy. All it takes is a little planning and thought to create a fun, safe and stress-free family excursion.

Fun in the sun

This may sound like a no-brainer, but it’s worth mentioning. You baby’s skin is very delicate, so you’ll need to provide ample protection from the sun. If your picnic area doesn’t offer a shady spot, create one with an umbrella. And don’t forget to apply sunscreen on all exposed skin.

Play space

While you and the other adults are happy just to lay back, relax and enjoy a glass of wine al fresco, baby will still want to play. Bring a playmat and a small assortment of toys and cuddlies that will provide a safe, comfy place to wiggle around, and also keep him or her happy and entertained.

Bring extras of everything

You know by now to expect the unexpected. There will be spills, and wardrobe changes will probably be necessary. Don’t fret! A changing pad, blanket and some cloths for washing up will come in very handy.

What’s on the menu?

If your baby is old enough, a picnic is a good opportunity to enjoy seasonal foods, such as juicy summer fruits or even ice cream. The outdoor setting allows everyone to get a little messy without worry. Remember not to fuss too much — this is fun!
